A Joint Public Project by AVerMedia and AVer Information to Support the “Cradle” of Taiwan’s National Karate Team
AVerMedia, a leader in digital video and audio convergence technology, has long been a firm believer in public service and has been actively giving back to society. This time, in tandem with sister company AVer Information, AVerMedia has directed combined resources towards supporting the Karate team of Shiuhkuang Senior High School, which has produced several national team representatives. Many school team members are aboriginal youth from remote areas in Taiwan, and the goal is to nurture them into national players. In addition to long-term financial sponsorship, AVerMedia will donate NT$100 to support the Nantou County Youth Karate Association with every purchase of designated AVerMedia products from July 1st.
Michael Kuo, the chairman of AVerMedia and AVer Information, drew attention to the fact that when coaches Tai-chi Huang and Te-lan Liao of the Nantou County Youth Karate Association set up a Karate team in Nantou, they did it out of their pocket. Their selfless contributions of knowledge and funding over the past 20-plus years to provide students from disadvantaged families with direction and instill self-confidence through Karate have brought new hope to nearly 1,000 students and produced 19 winners of the President's Education Award. Through participation in local and international competitions, these students won more than 1,500 medals, out of which more than 500 were gold medals, including two from the Asian Games. It is no wonder that the Nantou County Youth Karate Association has been dubbed "the cradle of the National Karate Team". Chairman Kuo shares the same philosophy as coach Huang and his wife, and with the vision "when one takes from society, one must always give back to society" in mind, he has high hopes for AVerMedia and AVer Information to become companies that create value and contribute to society. This is also the corporate social responsibility expected from both companies and shows the societal commitment of the two companies to the implementation of ESG.
AVerMedia has announced that from July 1st, 2022 to December 31st, 2022, it will donate NT$100 to support the Nantou County Youth Karate Association for every webcam (model: PW315) sold in stores or online within Taiwan.
About the Shiuhkuang Senior High School Karate Team:
The Shiuhkuang Senior High School Karate Team was founded and led by coaches Tai-chi Huang and Te-lan Liao. Their team comprised mainly of teenagers, and through their Karate training, brought them achievements in various competitions and admission into high school, university, and even graduate school.
Most of the teenagers hail from remote Nantou townships such as Xin-yi, Guo-xing, and Ren-ai. They are enrolled in the Karate class of Shiuhkuang Senior High School, although some are still in middle school. The two coaches provide free accommodation, guidance, dinner, and a full set of professional Karate training equipment. The program has been established for more than 20 years, and the team has participated in local and international competitions, winning more than 1,500 medals, including more than 500 gold medals, and has even won two Asian Games gold medals for Taiwan.
The students mainly come from single-parent households, live with their grandparents, or come from impoverished families. After being recommended by their previous schools, they were admitted into the Karate team. Before moving on to their dream school - Nantou County’s Shiuhkuang Senior High School Physical Education Class - they had to prove themselves through competitions and undergo appraisals. After entering high school, they had to follow a practice schedule during the day. And after class, they were taken care of by the two coaches and seniors with national Karate coaching certifications who also graduated from the program. The students are all far away from home, so the coaches take on the role of parents. And just like parents know almost everything about their children, the coaches also know their students. They temper love with discipline and besides taking care of them, also teach them to be morally upright so that they grow up to be mannered.
