AVerMedia Technologies is dedicated to being a responsible and considerate corporate citizen, as outlined in its corporate values: being down to earth, creating value, devotion to good work, and serving the community. Its corporate mission also emphasizes the company’s goals of innovating the ways that people and communities entertain themselves and committing to societal responsibilities on a global scale. AVerMedia Technologies follows through on its beliefs with strong, long-term actions in the realms of environmental protection, education, and local agricultural development. In addition to making numerous donations, the chairman also expects and encourages each of his employees to devote at least half a day per year to volunteer work, and he even organizes internal group work efforts such as involvement in the international Clean up the World initiative, the After-School Reading Companion campaign for underprivileged children run by the Chinese Christian Relief Association, and the Read for Hope campaign organized by the CommonWealth Education Foundation. As a result, AVerMedia Technologies received the 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Award from Vision magazine and has been ranked a Taiwan Top 50 corporate citizen for seven consecutive years.
Every single day, each one of us creates garbage. It may not amount to much per person, but there is no doubt that it is a huge amount collectively, and this is harming our planet. In answer, AVerMedia Technologies started its Clean up the World - Clean Earth movement in 2002 with the Good Neighbor Foundation. Every September, all the volunteer employees get together with their families and friends, both at home and abroad, and spend half a day picking up trash around the neighborhood, hoping to serve as good examples to their local communities and rekindle the passion of the public to care more for and do more for our environment.
Hampered by constraints in the environment and local transportation, children in remote areas are often denied various resources and sufficient access to learning, which in turn can harm their chances for a better future. In 2009, AVerMedia Technologies joined the Read for a Better Chance Program created by the Wealth Magazine Educational Foundation and is now involved in its tenth session. Volunteers gather at the office on Friday afternoons, then head into the mountains to read for the younger kids at Youmu elementary school in San Xia. It's not just about the stories told but also about the passion and inspiration that these volunteers hope to bring to these young students.
In any society, there are disadvantaged families in need of aid. Children growing up in these families suffer not only from material insufficiencies but also from psychological insecurities. These children might go astray or, even worse, end up giving up on themselves because of a lack of care after school. In view of this, AVerMedia Technologies began the After School Reading Companion Program with the Chinese Christian Relief Association in 2007, making a concerted effort to take better care of those in the community in need of help. In addition to funding one specific Companion Class each semester, AVerMedia Technologies also recruits internally for volunteers and joins the Reading Companion program every Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening at the Renewal Church locations in XinZhuang and Banqiao.
Seeing itself as a "technology farmer,” AVerMedia Technologies praises the spirit of being down to earth in all the things it does, in addition to supporting the local agriculture movement by promoting local produce to show its appreciation for farmers' hard work.
AVerMedia sees environmental preservation as a long-term commitment. It established a comprehensive environmental management system and became the leading company in the industry to comply with the EU RoHS Directive on toxic lead-free processes by incorporating environmental design considerations and international standards in product development. In December 2003, AVerMedia was granted certification for compliance with ISO 14001, proving AVerMedia’s progress in improving its environmental policy via overall environmental assessments, extensive regulatory inspections, and investigations into the storage, usage, and potential impact of raw factory materials and chemical substances. Consequently, the environmental protection system continues to operate effectively to minimize the impact on the environment. In 2006, AVerMedia Technologies introduced the selection of non-toxic, lead-free parts and a cleaner production line consistent with the EU RoHS directive requirements.
Furthermore, it acquired Green Partner certification from world-esteemed manufacturers and in compliance with the EU WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive), keeping up with the latest international and local regulations on raw materials, such as CE, RoHS, WEEE, FCC, UL, BETS-7, C-TICK, BSMI, VCCI, and more. AVerMedia Technologies has now achieved ISO9001 (Quality Management), ISO14000 (environmental management), and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management) certifications, in addition to acquiring IECQ QC 080000 certification of its Hazardous Substance Process Management System in June 2010. Source management starts with the quality and selection of material for each part; therefore, environmental awareness is incorporated from the beginning, including specific carbon emission footprint calculations for various products.
Because greenhouse gas emissions are viewed as a major cause of global warming, AVerMedia has taken steps to cope with this issue and fulfill the responsibility of a corporate citizen. In addition to continuing to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction, AVerMedia Technologies also introduced ISO14064-1 in 2010 to conduct a comprehensive inventory of corporate greenhouse gas emissions of the six categories of greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆). These gases are categorized by types of emission source into fixed point (location) combustion emission, mobile combustion emissions, production emissions, fugitive emissions, energy input, and others. AVerMedia Technologies also promotes and practices greenhouse gas emission reduction policies as part of its long-term corporate goals.
AVerMedia Technologies employs OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system architecture not only to comply with advanced international safety and health standards but also to ensure that employees are provided with safe, healthy working environments and facilities. Also, a safety and health committee has been established to coordinate among various units in order to provide a basis for managing health and safety and the environmental management system.
The term People-oriented is a good description of how AVerMedia views its employees as its most important asset, the kinetic energy responsible for business growth. In 2008, AVerMedia introduced the competency concept, which is based on corporate culture and business philosophy. The concept was then incorporated through in-depth interviews with top managers prior to developing a management system for core competence, management competence, and professional competence. Furthermore, AVerMedia implemented a human resource information system in 2010 to define the competence requirements of each position and rank in the company; to better apply training and development plans; and to better evaluate work performance and appraisals for promotions. AVerMedia offers competitive salaries, employee benefits, and education and training opportunities for employees in order to attract talented individuals to work and grow with its family.
AVerMedia Technologies provides staff group insurance, which covers life insurance, accident insurance, accidental medical insurance, hospitalization insurance, medical insurance for cancers, and annual physical examinations. All of the expenses for the aforementioned services are covered by company. Moreover, regular on-site medical specialist consultation services and quarterly health seminars are provided, including programs on parenting, spiritual growth, physical health, and more.
AVerMedia Technologies believes that employees should have a balance between their work, health, and private lives. Hard work guarantees a stable income that supports quality living. In turn, healthy private lives ensure quality at work. The company also provides various activities for employees to get involved in after work, including mountain climbing clubs, softball teams, and Pilates classes.
