Sony has announced on their PlayStation Blog a system software update to the PlayStation 4 that can disable High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). Eliminating an elaborate pass-through to capture video will appeal to gamers who enjoy sharing their content with others. With PS4, the HDCP toggle is all or nothing: once HDCP is turned off, then that feature applies for all apps on the console. The 1.7 update that includes the HDCP off feature landed globally on April 30, 2014.
